A New 5 week session of Saturday & Sunday bellydance classes with Colleen is starting up on January 7th & 8th at Vitality Bellydance & Wellness Studio in Bloomfield. Classes are suited to dancers of all levels. Wether you are just starting out in your bellydance journey, or a seasoned dancer, classes are designed to refine, refresh, and introduce something new and exciting to your pursuit of this fun, fulfilling art. Saturdays, beginning January 7th, through February 4th.
12pm - 1pm
Improvisatonal Tribal Style Bellydance

- Improvisational Tribal Style Bellydance is an improvised dance style created on the spot by utilizing a body of shared movement vocabulary. Students will learn a varied movement lexicon and will learn to dance spontaneously by cuing new movements with the turn of the head or a gesture of the hands. Our ITS movement vocabulary is created uniquely for Vitality Studio, utilizing bellydance props such as zils (finger cymbals), veils, fans, and skirts. Drop ins welcome!


1pm - 2pm
Mixed Level Modern Bellydance

Enjoy a deep study of bellydance technique, breaking down fundamentals for a clear understanding, and explore movement vocabulary with short, fun combinations. Reinforce, refine and refresh. Become familiar with the history and trends of bellydance through classroom discussion. This class is perfect for those who are new to bellydance, or for the experienced dancer wishing to strengthen their technique.

Egyptian Bellydance

- this Mixed Level class is perfect for all dancers. This class includes cmprehensive breakdowns of technique, layering, and traveling steps. We'll put it all together in a fun, complete dance to really get us moving, shimmying, and having fun with this compelling, graceful style. Drop ins welcome!

1:30pm - 2:30pm
Bellydance Prop Lab

In this 5 week session, we will focus on dancing with Assaya (cane). Experience the fun of dancing with some of the many fun props bellydance offers, learn proper alignment, and build strength to execute safe, graceful, compelling movement. We will complete our 5 weeks by learning a complete dance with our assayas. Bring your own cane, or borrow or purchase one at the studio! 
Students must have completed at least one session of a basic bellydance class at Vitality or elsewhere to participate in this class. Registration required, no drop ins.

  • Bellydance Level 1 - 7:00pm-8:00pm Enjoy a rich study of bellydance technique, breaking down fundamentals for a clear understanding, and explore movement vocabulary with short, fun combinations. Reinforce, refine and refresh, with an artillery of drills designed to get you the deepest, richest expression of movement. Become familiar with the history and trends of bellydance through classroom discussion. This class is perfect for those who are new to bellydance, or for the experienced dancer wishing to strengthen their technique. Colleen can modify class components to suit all levels of dancers. Walk away feeling deliciously challenged and hungry for more of this inspiring art form. Drop ins welcome!
  • Bellydance Level 2: Theme Study/Choreography/Performance - 8:00pm-9:00pm In this class we will take our study further by applying our technique to the finer elements of the dance. Components of this class will include:~ A theme study, with in-depth focus on the many themes, styles, and props unique to bellydance.~ Learning a complete bellydance choreography, focusing on putting movements together, expressing the nuances of the music, and strengthening technique.~ Performance skills to refine and polish for your individual dance goals.~ Explore the use of various props and delve deeper into the history, musicology and culture of the dance. ~ Performance opportunities with Colleen's student troupe available to students who wish to participate. *Material covered in each class builds upon the next, therefor drop ins will not be accepted for this class. Students are encouraged to register for the entire session to get the most out of their practice.

     
  • Mazagat Troupe Rehearsal - 9:00pm-9:30pm This is a rehearsal class for Colleen's bellydance troupe, Mazagat. Admission is by invitation or audition only.

Samai Rhythm
- explore this delicious 10/8 rhythm in depth, and learn about the rich tradition of Muwashahat. Explore the history of this dance style's journey across many parts of the world, and expierence the grace, and fluidity of dancing to this rhythm. Drop ins welcome!

We are bursting with gratitude to share our passion for movement arts with the city of Pittsburgh, and we want to give back! Join us at Vitality Bellydance & Wellness Studio for the first in a series of monthly donation based classes that will benefit local charities. Our first donation based class will benefit the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh, an organization very close to our founder's heart. Join us on your mat at 11am at Vitality Studio for an all levels Vinyasa Flow class. No donation is too big or small. No registration necessary. See you at the studio!
